About
Why this exists
We think a company can treat people well and still make money. Plenty of people will tell you that’s naive. Screw them.
Vision and mission
Vision
A world where the complicated parts of life were never complicated to begin with.
Mission
We take the parts of life that other people made complicated, and make them simple enough to do yourself.
Life is complicated enough. Let’s get simple.
Commitments
What we have committed to
B Corp certification
Being a B Corp means an independent body scores how a company treats its staff, its customers and the place it operates in, then publishes the result. We want it because we think a company can do right by all three and still make serious money, and certification is what turns that from an opinion into a number. We are working towards it in Australia.
Open Startup
For us, transparency is key. It means publishing the real figures as they happen: what came in, what it costs to run, and where the money went. Plenty of companies explain an ugly decision by pointing at their shareholders. We would rather show you the ledger and let you judge for yourself.
Global goals
The four we are working towards
The United Nations set seventeen Sustainable Development Goals. These four are the ones we keep coming back to.
No Poverty
Being short of money is expensive. Fees, interest, the bond you cannot raise, the thing you buy twice because you could not afford it properly once. It compounds quietly, and it lands hardest on people who did nothing to deserve it. We would like to be a company that pushes the other way.
Decent Work and Economic Growth
Plenty of capable people never get looked at properly. Wrong postcode, wrong school, no degree, a gap on the page nobody ever asked about. Work should pay properly, treat people decently, and stay open to someone whose paperwork tells you very little about them.
Reduced Inequalities
The good version of a thing is usually the expensive one, so the people who would get the most out of it are the ones priced away from it. Where we can put something good within reach of somebody it normally is not, we will.
Responsible Consumption and Production
A software company's footprint is easy to overlook, which is exactly why it gets overlooked. We would rather account for ours and give back more than we take, while it is still small enough to get right without a committee.
